TL;DR

  • Google introduced Gemini 3.5 Flash, positioned for complex, agentic workflows and coding; generally available starting Tuesday
  • Claimed frontier-level performance at 4x speed versus comparable frontier models, often less than half the cost
  • Reported to rival flagship models for agents and coding while retaining Flash-line speed
  • Claimed to outperform Gemini 3.1 Pro on challenging coding and agentic benchmarks
  • Availability: Gemini App, AI Mode in Google Search, Antigravity, Gemini API in Google AI Studio and Android Studio, Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform
  • Gemini 3.5 Pro announced as coming next month; X reactions included price/speed interest, skepticism, and usage-limit complaints

Google on Tuesday introduced Gemini 3.5 Flash, describing it as its "strongest agentic and coding model yet" and claiming it delivers "frontier-level performance" at "4x the speed" of comparable frontier models, often at "less than half the cost." The company also stated that the model is "generally available" starting today.

In a series of posts on X, Google said Gemini 3.5 Flash is built for "complex, agentic workflows" and that it "rivals flagship models" for agents and coding while keeping the speed associated with the Flash line. The company also claimed the model outperforms Gemini 3.1 Pro on "challenging coding and agentic benchmarks."

Google said Gemini 3.5 Flash is available globally to "everyone" through Gemini App and AI Mode in Google Search, to developers through Antigravity and the Gemini API in Google AI Studio and Android Studio, and to enterprises in Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform. The company added that Gemini 3.5 Pro is "coming next month."

Reactions on X were mixed. Some commenters praised the speed and price claims, while others greeted the launch with skepticism, including one user who suggested the model would generate "broken production code 4x faster and at half the price." Another commenter objected to what appeared to be strict usage limits, calling them "very very harsh." Google replied to a few users with brief acknowledgments, including "You've got that right" and "Can't wait to see all you do with it."
