OpenAI launches Ultrafast tier to speed up Astra coding

OpenAI has just rolled out Ultrafast for Astra, promising up to 8x faster code generation in Codex than Standard. It can hit 300 tokens per second and pair with WebSocket mode in the Responses API. Enterprise and Pro 500 get access, with GPT-6.1 Sol support coming soon.

OpenAI has announced Ultrafast, a new speed tier for Astra that the company claims can generate code in Codex up to eight times faster than Astra Standard and four times faster than Astra Fast.

OpenAI Developers describes Ultrafast as a way to shorten the cycle from an idea to generated code and subsequent revisions. The company also claims that the tier can reach up to 300 tokens per second in Codex, while offering up to six times faster token generation through the API.

In the API, Ultrafast can be combined with WebSocket mode in the Responses API for real-time applications, according to OpenAI. The company states that Astra with Ultrafast is available to developers through the API.

Access in Codex and ChatGPT Work is available on Enterprise plans and through the new Pro 500 plan. OpenAI also states that Ultrafast support for GPT-6.1 Sol is coming soon.
