TL;DR

  • Weekly usage limits change Sept 14: Claude Code shifts from 50% bonus to permanent 25% over base limits
  • Applies to Pro, Max, Team, and seat-based Enterprise plans
  • Net effect: ~17% reduction versus current promo limits (from 1.5× down to 1.25×)
  • Rationale: limits adjusted to what Anthropic can “sustainably serve”; promo remains until Sept 14
  • Planned: improved usage visibility and controls; limits may rise again with more compute
  • Backlash: criticism focused on wording framing a reduction as an “increase”; additional calls for broader Fable access

Anthropic will reduce Claude Code’s current usage bonus on September 14

Anthropic will change Claude Code’s weekly usage limits on September 14, replacing the current 50% bonus with a permanent 25% increase over base limits for Pro, Max, Team, and seat-based Enterprise plans, according to an announcement from ClaudeDevs.

The company acknowledges that the change amounts to a 17% reduction from the limits available today. The calculation is straightforward: base limits represent 1× usage, the temporary promotion provides 1.5×, and the new permanent level will provide 1.25×. One user calculated the decrease from 1.5× to 1.25× at roughly 16.5%.

Anthropic attributes the adjustment to the level of usage it can “sustainably serve.” The temporary bonus will remain active until September 14, after which the new limits will apply permanently. The company also claims it is working on improved usage visibility and controls, and may raise limits again as more compute becomes available.
